NO-BRAINER: DAVID ARCHULETA FOR BENCH

by Nino Mark Sablan

When I had a one-on-one interview with David Archuleta at the Close Up Pyromusical last February 11, he mentioned that he had to extend his stay in the country for a week because of more projects.

As it turns out, one of the projects is an endorsement deal with Bench and Bench Fix. Why didn’t I see that coming? Come to think of it, David–with his boyish good looks and undeniable charm–is perfect for Bench.

Just look at the photos.

I got to see David again when he was launched by the brand as their newest face, and basing on the reaction of the crowd in Trinoma last February 17, it looks like Bench hit the jackpot with him.

heck out these plus some behind-the-scenes photos. I can’t wait to see his in-store photos and billboards.

I will surely miss him while he’s busy with his two-year break from the entertainment industry. Good thing his TV5 show Nandito Ako is already on air, and a new all-OPM album will be released very soon.

David Archuleta visited the Museum Gajah in Indonesia

Passion for education

David Archuleta, the runner up of the seventh season of American Idol, is performing in Senayan for the Pond’s Teens Concert this Saturday night (July 16, 2011). Surprisingly, he made time to visit the National Museum of Indonesia (Museum Nasional, which is also known as Museum Gajah because of the elephant statue in its front yard) to know more about Indonesia.

It’s rarely for the Indonesian Heritage Society, a non-profit organization supporting the Museum Nasional in conducting guided tour in English or in other foreign languages, to receive a tour request from a celebrity who’s also an idol to the Indonesian teens. Hellen, one of the Indonesian volunteer tour guides, took David Archuleta and his group to visit the Indonesian archipelago for about an hour in the famous Museum Gajah. The tour impressed David, especially for its variety of stone sculptures collection and also with the sets of gamelan in the museum.

Googling through the internet, it’s obvious that David Archuleta has his special interest in museums. He also mentioned his visit to the Museum Gajah in his tweetply and upadated his blog with this special visit, “Just went to the Museum Gajah and learned about some Indonesian culture and history. Really cool.”

Museum Gajah as the National Museum of Indonesia is actually a way to learn a bit about Indonesia for those who only have limited visiting time. The museum’s collection is a large collection gathered since the foundation of the Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences in 1778. No wonder if the richness of culture and history of the Archipelago impressed David Archuleta.

It’s nice to learn that a star like him, who began winning talent competition since he was ten years old, still have time to develop a passion for museums, and do care to share it through his online activities. His visit to the Museum Nasional was actually awesome considering the tight schedule he has in Jakarta. Hopefully his visit to the National Museum of Indonesia, which brought him a bit closer to the Indonesian Archipelago, can bring him back to visit his fans across the archipelago.

(Thanks to Hellen for the information, and thanks to Febby for the pictures).

Fan Review: “DALIM III-EPIC!!!”

Fan Review – DALIM III-EPIC!!!
by Lou Ann

Hello, Araneta Coliseum! Nice to see yah again. It’s been five  months. Yeah, right, it’s been five months since I watched Super Show 3 Manila and now I’m back to watch DAVID ARCHULETA..LIVE!! It’s the 3rd time that DAVID visited Philippines. I am so happy to see him again..

A Sigh of Disappointment turned  into TEARS of JOY

At first, as Julie Anne San Jose was performing, I thought not many people watched DAVId.. I was really disappointed but after David’s 3rd song, I was delighted to see that many people showed up. Music lovers of different ages watched the show. Moms, Dads, “ate’s”, Kuya’s even grandma’s came to watch David…and the crowd was far from quiet. Every song, the crowd would cheer which encouraged David so much.. As people showed their LOVE for D, I was literally in tears.. After 3 years, David is still loved by the crowd!!!!

All-Out Performance

David, as expected, gave his best…hitting high notes, singing with all his heart and of course, interacting with the crowd. He was genuine nice which made the crowd to love all his performances. I, however, noticed something.. DAVID has grown BETTER.. His voice was flawless, his rhythm in dancing had improved. He had grown from a boyish lad to a handsome man. He turned into the “total package” as he easily shift from ballad to alternative to r&b. He showed everyone that he was more than just a pop cutie but an AUTHENTIC ARTIST.

An Extra Mile

David’s encore performance should have been his dance ditty, ZERO GRAVITY but due to the immense public demand and loud cheers “WE WANT MORE” from the crowd, David came back on stage, belting out not one but two songs- HEAVEN and his smash hit single, CRUSH. After the show, the crowd kept cheering and saying WE LOVE YOU, DAVID.. proving that His charm to Pinoys hasn’t faded..

LONGEVITY- Staying power

It was in 2008 that David emerged into pop scene thru American Idol Season 7. Yet, his star power hasn’t faltered and he had proven his staying power in the industry. He proved that he was not just a “one-hit” wonder! =D

Faithful ARCHIEs

David’s fans who cheered for him last May 16 2009 continued to be with him until present. They came in full force at Araneta Coliseum-showing that their LOVE and Faithfulness for David remain…

Truly, it was a night to remember…DAVID ARCHLETA rocked ARANETA!!!

Featured Archustuff: 158 Songs of David

Check out this creative story/article by PandasMama containing 158 songs sung by David!!! :D Hats off for that massive effort!!! Some fans maybe ”unfamiliar” with some of the songs because they’re from the AI group performances or from interviews wherein David sang bits of the song. ;)

It’s definitely an enjoyable read!

Here’s an excerpt:

158 Ways You Drive Me Crazy

by PandasMama
Okay, I Surrender.  I started this project with One goal in mind; to write a fictional short story incorporating the titles of all of the songs from David Archuleta’s three albums into it. I wanted this story to be a tribute to my Hero, the one with the Bubbly personality, the one who said Don’t Stop Believing that Things Are Gonna Get Better.

As I “pondered” what I wanted this story to be about, I ran into several Barriers in my mind, the first being that there’s Gotta Be many really Joyful, Joyful songs that David has covered that don’t appear on his albums that I should also include in this story. Well, at A Moment Like This, what’s a “go-getter” fan to do? I immediately went to my computer in a Desperate attempt to search my iTunes account to see how many songs I had there. That’s when it hit me.  Most of my songs weren’t on iTunes because my old player was an off-brand MP3 player that didn’t play iTunes formated songs. Most of my “David music” was stored on my computer. The sad part is, last year my PC crashed and took most of my music with it, And I Am Telling You, I had a lot of MP3‘s stored on that machine.  I felt like I was in an Elevator that was Falling and when it hit, it would Crush my spirit. I wanted to Shout To The Lord, but I knew David wouldn’t approve of this. This discovery, that so many of my treasured memories of the past three years had Fallin‘ prey to a Senseless computer virus, left me with No Air and Waiting For Yesterday.

Well, it’s no use Stomping The Roses. Even though I’m A Little Too Not Over You, computer, I decided to Let It Be. It wouldn’t help to Complain anymore.  I had to come up with a new plan of action, one that Works For Me.  You see, David has taught us that When You Believe in something and when others Stand By Me and you Don’t Let Go of dreams, then You Can accomplish anything, you can Dream Sky High and even visit a Castle On A Cloud.

And So It Goes that I turned to my youtube account to check my “favorites” to see what I could add to my list.  I discovered that I like to hear David sing about Angels From The Realms Of Glory and America The Beautiful and, even though he says he doesn’t really have a Love Song, my heart melts when I hear When You Say You Love Me. And then there is always the undeniably fantastic Love Me Tender. Oh, Be Still My Soul. Ah, I found some of my favorite songs; It looks like I might have Another Day In Paradise after all.  I’m in Heaven.  But Heaven Can Wait because  –Bend Me, Shape Me, Anyway You Want Me –Wait, I need to stop breaking into song and concentrate on the “task” at hand. Ok, lets see what other songs I have on here. Oh, Neil Diamond week group song.  Jason, Cookie, Brookie, Somebody, Craklin’ Rosie, and DAVID.  Sing it David- Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show- Hallelujah. I Saw The Light! Wow! That was One Sweet Day. Man, I’ve been Reelin’ In The Years but I Can’t Buy Me Love While My Guitar Gently Weeps over Smoky Mountain Memories. Well, I think we can Check Yes, Juliet, I am losing my mind.

Well, there Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.  I’m ready to start my story. Get Ready cause here I come. Wait, I see another problem; one of David’s three albums features many Melodies of Christmas. My mind is Running in circles.  Sweet Caroline, I’ll Be Crazy before I figure out how to work in all of those songs. I mean, I want to be able to bring Joy To The World of David’s fans by writing this story but, Hey Soul Sister, how will I ever find a way to work Angels We Have Heard On High into a story unless I talk about a group of fans listening to David sing on a rooftop somewhere. That would be like Waiting On The World To Change, it may never happen.

Shakespeare and David Archuleta

Shakespeare and David

by Nellie (Janel)

Little did Shakespeare know so many centuries ago that his lines to his plays and sonnets would encapture what we fans feel for David.

I’ll have to quote from my favorite Shakespeare play first, Much Ado About nothing. Beatrice is in a state of anguish over her cousin. She says to Benedict: “You have stayed me in a happy hour for I was about to protest my love for you.” Benedict says to her “Then do it with all thy heart.” Beatrice: “I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest.”

How many of us have been sullen because of bad news, a death of a friend or family member, a bad day at work or school and David manages to lift us up with his music and our heart is filled with love again? David takes us from our bad moods and stays us in a happy hour, professing our joy for him and his music.

From A Midsummer Night’s Dream

“Cupid is a Knavish Lad, thus to make poor females mad.”

I only think about David with this one because of how many young girls have been struck by a cupid’s arrow when it comes to David. The young girl wishing to be the one whom David’s heart beats for. And girls, young and old making us a little crazy for our affections to David. Some affections are strong, making the heart go pitter-patter at his smile, his voice, his laugh. Some affections are similar to that of a mother, of adornment and concern toward a child. He makes us want to shelter him, and we worry about him.

From Hamlet:

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

How true is this statement about David? David is always true to himself, his morals, his beliefs. He has no pretension about NOT wanting his music to fit into the mold of the immoral world, what the music business thinks he should compromise and make his music be like. Part of David’s charm is his strength in character. He won’t bend to what others want him to do. David to his own self is true, and when we follow in his example, our lives are changed for the better.

From All’s Well that Ends Well.

“That I should love a bright particular star, and think to wed it. He is so above me.”

How bright a star is David??? So many young girls love him and would give anything to marry him (how many “Marry me David” signs have we seen? Countless!) For so many, this goal is unreachable. David doesn’t think to be above or better than anyone else, but we can change that quote to say “He is so out of reach.” But for one lucky girl, one day, that hope and dream will come true. So, keep hoping girls!

From Julius Caesar:

“It is better to create than to learn! Creating is the essence of life.”

Well, though David would say it’s important to have an education, creativity is his centerpiece. His style of music, the way he sings and delivers it to our hearts, how he can create an existing song to make it his own. We love our creative genius!

From MacBeth:

“Now, good digestion wait on appetite, and health on both.”

That one, self explanatory, David loves to eat, a lot, and he often eats healthy.

From Anthony and Cleopatra:

“Give me some music – music, moody food of us that trade in love”

Give us David music. Music to love by, live by, cry with, the moody food of our soul.

From Twelfth Night:

“This fellow’s wise enough to play the fool and to do that well craves a kind of wit.”

I’m not sure what context this quote is in concerning the play, but this reminded me of David because he calls himself a dork and goofy. Wit is humor. His tweets can be so funny sometimes. He probably isn’t even trying to be funny. What did David Cook say about him on idol? Something like David is a funny guy and has a dry wit about him. David didn’t even know what Cook meant by that. Even that was funny!

Quote from William Shakespeare:

“The Love of Heaven makes one heavenly”

So true of David, our angel. He sings because of God and for God. He knows that God will use his music for good. He uses his status as a star for good by helping others. Jesus loves little children. David emulates Jesus for that same love. He cares so much for children who are suffering in this world. David is our angel from heaven.

And finally from Othello:

“He hath a daily beauty in his life.”

No words needed.
