“Christmas from the Heart” David Archuleta (Jive)
David Archuleta may be a teenager but he’s well suited for classic holiday songs like “Silent Night” and “Ave Maria.” The former “American Idol” runner-up sings those songs and more on his new holiday CD “Christmas from the Heart.” There’s a plethora of holiday music out there with musicians recording holiday music just because, but Archuleta’s recording makes sense. He’s got a powerful, soulful voice that’s beyond his years. If you’re looking to add to your holiday music collection or get into the spirit of the season, this CD is a good choice.

Holiday albums: Time for candy canes, coal
David Archuleta, Christmas From the Heart (Jive): The American Idol alum plays it straight on this collection of traditional hymns. He has a lovely voice, especially on the “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” duet with Charice Pempengco, which will make this a must-have for fans – and pleasant for others, too. Two candy canes.

A2SO hopes to broaden audience with David Archuleta Christmas concert on Friday
…The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will team up with “American Idol” singer David Archuleta on Friday night for a concert titled “Christmas From the Heart” at Hill Auditorium…
…The concert is in support of Archuleta’s new, Yule-themed CD of the same name. Tickets went on sale at the end of October, and more than one-third of Hill’s available 3,500 seats sold out in the first week, attracting fans from as far away as San Francisco…
…In addition to Christmas songs, Archuleta’s program will include his hit, “Crush,” as well as “Zero Gravity” and a few other non-holiday tunes. The symphony will offer “Sleigh Ride” and a selection from the “Nutcracker,” Siefkes added, “but mostly it’s David.”…
…Although Siefkes wouldn’t say how much the A2SO had to pay for Archuleta, “this is the most we’re paying for a soloist ever … (but) I think we’ll sell it out.”…
…Siefkes said the concert will help the A2SO conclude the year on a high note….

David Archuleta: “It should be about music”
As many are aware, a recent performance at the AMA’s has caused a lot of spark and debate around the world of music. I’m delighted in reading all the different perspectives on why or why not, this “performance” was necessary, fun, revolting, or acceptable. I won’t name names, or point anything out in fear of sounding harsh or critical. I accept not everyone has the same taste in music, art, politics or religion.
However, in contrast, if it’s even possible, it really made me appreciate David even more. I’ve seen David live this year 8 times, with another 5 shortly to come. Why on earth would anyone attend the same concert more than once? Well because it’s David. He doesn’t sit down and agonize over all the unnecessary factors of what could be construed as “entertainment”. He only cares about his voice, and putting on the best show that he is capable of putting out there. He doesn’t confine himself to what the song sounded like yesterday; he’s open to his own interpretation, EVERY time he opens his mouth to sing. He’s grown confident enough to let himself explore different runs, different octaves, and different rhythms. David has said many times over, “it should be about the music”. And not until today, did I fully understand what he was trying to say. (boy oh boy he’s a smart guy).
