J-14 Exclusive Q&A with David Archuleta!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Following his performance on American Idol this week, David Archuleta chatted exclusively with J-14 about his new hairdo, Aaron Kelly, and who he thinks will win this season.
J-14: What was it like being back on the Idol stage?
David: It really freaked me out! My mind left when I was talking to Ryan. I thought through what I was going to say, but then my mind totally went blank. It was pretty bad. And It was scary having the judges there – you feel like you’re going to be judged too. But I was so glad to get to sing “Imagine” again. I haven’t sung that song that much. I think I’ve performed it once out of all the tours I’ve ever done, and that’s it.J-14: Our readers have been tweeting about how much they like the new hairdo you debuted last night. Why the change?
David: I’ve always had it generally the same, so I just wanted to do something different this time. I feel like people always associate me with the same haircut all the time — I want to show people that I’m in a new phase right now. It’s a new time for me!J-14: What was it like meeting this season’s contestants?
David: They were all really cool people. Lee Dewyze was so friendly! My sister loves him, and I think he’s a really talented guy. I was really impressed with how cool he was and how he treated me.

David’s on J-14 again!
Here’s the description and transcript from HiyaArchie(idf). I’ll post scans soon as they’re up!
He’s on the cover of J-14! And in the mag quite a few times. I bolded the titles of the articles and under it is what is written.
“David Loves Reading J-14!”
There’s nothing I love more than handing David a copy of J-14. Why? Because he reads it right away…with commentary. My fave was when he saw his “Dorky to Droolworthy” transformation and said, “You should change that to from ‘Dorky to dorky.’” Awww…too modest!
(next to his pic it says “David read the cover out loud, “Is Debby dating David?” and answered, “No!”)
“They’re proud to be dorky!”
David says: “I don’t make sense when I talk. I’ll be talking and trying to make sense of what I’m saying and it gets lost!”
David’s Backstage Secrets
David opened his dressing room door and let us hang out with him backstage at our InTune concert at N.Y.’s Hard Rock Cafe.
(Then there’s a bunch of pics of him. He’s holding a penguin, being wrestled by Lupe, giving a thumbs up, etc. Oh and theres a poster of him wearing green!)
(There’s a pic of david on a quiz that readers take and a pic of his head on a U.S.A. map on Utah.
Last, on the hot list, the number one Fave Video was ALTNOY!! He’s playing the guitar in that pic.)

David Archuleta Isn’t Ready for BroadwayWhile some ‘American Idol’ contestants have used their fame to launch their careers on Broadway, David Archuleta says he’s not going to be one of them.
Archuleta admits he’d rather be focusing on his music career than worry about following in the footsteps of Broadway bound Idols like Clay Aiken or Fantasia Barrino. “I never really thought about [performing on Broadway.] I am more about performing and doing music,” Archuleta said. “Maybe my tastes will change but not right now,” he added.
Instead Archuleta gushed about performing an intimate concert in New York’s Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square on January 12. “I’m so excited,” Archuleta said. Honored to be performing in the same venue as music’s greatest legends, he added, “It’s a cozy setting, so it will be a lot of fun.”
Drawing in hundreds of screaming fans for private concert, Archuleta was finally able to interact with his fans–something that was difficult to do during the nationwide ‘American Idol’ tour. Even though he has temporarily given up sold-out arenas, Archuleta is excited things are starting to calm down. “It’s really chill and laid back… I’m finally getting a chance to see my family and friends,” he said.
Despite his quick breather in New York, he is already planning for the next step in his career. “We are working on my own tour… I’m excited about it because we did the ‘American Idol’ tour but it was not my own thing. It will be really exciting to see how that all goes,” Archuleta said. While no dates have been released, he promises fans that they won’t be disappointed.
Another Hard Rock Gig Article
David Archuleta gave fans a night to remember when he played at the In-Tune concert at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square, New York. The American Idol finalist gave over 100 lucky readers from J-14, M and Twist teen magazines an exclusive performance, and was joined by rising star Nolan Gerard Funk, who sang songs from his upcoming Nickelodeon TV movie, Spectacular!
The hour-long special concert, organised by Bauer Publishing’s Teen Group, wasn’t enough for the fans, who screamed for more.
“I’m very excited,” David revealed on the red carpet.
“I’m feeling good. I’m a little nervous right now, but it’ll be great.
“The Hard Rock Café is like a cosy type of setting with a relaxed feel, so that should be fun. Over December, we did a lot of arenas and Christmas shows so this should be nice and not with so much intense pressure. It will be chilled and laidback.”
Nolan revealed he was even more nervous.
“It’s my first live performance so I’m just excited to get out there and rock out,” he admitted.
“I’m performing at a place that has a lot of history – they had the premiere of Elvis’ [Presley] movie, Love Me Tender. It’s a really historic space so I’m really thrilled.
“I’m a big fan of Bon Jovi, Beatles and Elvis, so the fact that people like that have performed in this venue is incredible, especially for my first performance ever.”

EXCLUSIVE! Our Event With David Archuleta & Spectacular’s Nolan Funk
American Idol’s eighth season kicks off tonight on Fox–but last night, J-14 got our own Idol experience with an intimate InTune concert at Hard Rock Café in New York City’s Time Square with last year’s runner-up, David Archuleta.
We were there from start to finish, getting a true taste of what David is really like. Right off the bat, it was clear he didn’t have even a speck of superstar attitude. In fact, chatting with David is no different than just hanging out with one of your closest friends…he’s so friendly, so open, and so sweet.
The moment we stepped into David’s dressing room, he was already singing–it’s no wonder he’s such a natural. Once he got on stage for his soundcheck, he was even more of a pro… adjusting and tweaking sounds so they were just right.
David was constantly being pulled in different directions: meeting fans, doing interviews, posing for photos, and so much more… but he was totally chill about it all and did everything with his trademark grin and modest attitude. He’s just the kind of person you want to be a star.
The “Crush” singer wasn’t the only star at the show– Nickelodeon’s Spectacular! star Nolan Gerard Funk opened with two songs from the TV musical (premieres February 16). It was his first stage show ever–and he had a sinus infection!–yet he worked the crowd like he’d been performing all this life. And boy, were the girls screaming! Definitely a new hottie alert!
The screams amplified with David A. got on stage. He sat at his keyboard and belting the lyrics out the lyrics to “Angels” and “A Thousand Miles” with all his heart–and also got up to rock the house with his hits “Crush” and “A Little Not Too Over You.” The crowd encored him back for more–so he took requests, and finally went with “I’ll Be.” When we met him backstage right after the show, he admitted he totally did that on the spot. “I always forget to prepare an encore,” he laughed.
Want even more proof that both David and Nolan are amazing performers? They can totally think quickly and go with the flow under pressure. The tracks for David’s “Crush” and Nolan’s “Don’t Tell Me” were swapped on accident. When Nolan heard the wrong track, he entertained the crowd by getting them pumped up. And then when David got the wrong track too, he started shimmying his shoulders and dancing across the stage–yup, don’t mistake the sweet Idol as shy, he’s got moves!
After all that, both Nolan and David still made time to sign autographs for fans–always with a smile. If we didn’t already “crush” on David before, last night made us crush even more!
