David Archuleta: Where Did He Come From?

“American Idol” is a lot like a political campaign, and the contestant’s high school is a lot like their campaign headquarters. We loved catching up with David Archuleta’s current classmates, but it was our chat with his childhood vocal coach that really opened our eyes. After our interview, he played us a brilliant demo of “Imagine” that Archie recorded when he was only 12 years old, half a decade before he pulled that song out of his back pocket on TV and floored all of us — the viewers, the judges, the other contestants — with one of the best performances in “Idol” history!

SU2C: Crush Kids’ Cancer updates!

Hello again Archies, it’s Pecan Pie. At present, our team holds the lead by a slim margin of about $700 and has apparently been too busy celebrating yesterday’s big event to keep up the pace with donations. The way I see it, the Crush Kids’ Cancer – David Archuleta’s Angels Team is a brand new team as of December 28th, 2008. Before that date, we were honoring a kind, generous, talented BOY named David Archuleta – a mini-hunk, if you will. Today, we have a team in honor of a compassionate, extraordinary MAN of the same name who has chosen to use his rare gift as a means of reaching out to others so that they should, in turn, have the same opportunity as he has had to grow into happy healthy adults. Now that he has achieved full-blown hunkdom, I dub him the Half-Honduran Hunk (I’m all about the alliteration) and clearly no wimpy little $700 lead over the second team will do. So let’s give some big, hunky donations and show the world on national television that no one knows how to Stand Up to Cancer bigger and stronger than our man DJ H3 (the Half-Honduran Hunk needs a new gangsta name to go with his new manly self, right?). Don’t forget, Santa has agreed to release the conclusion of the “are you Pecan Pie” video only if our team raises the most money by the deadline. To hug or not to hug, ahhh that IS the question.
The deadline is New Year’s Eve, 11:59 pm EST December 31st.

How to donate:
- go to http://www.standup2cancer.org/teams/challenge.
- register and login
- click the donate button next to the Crush Kids’Cancer team
- confirm your donation by clicking the “my SU2C” tab and selecting “my donations” and it should tell you that your donation went to the team

David Archuleta Is Now a Man

From NY Mag’s Vulture:
The real winner of American Idol has turned 18.
A happy belated birthday to the most talented singing sensation ever to take the stage! American Idol’s true winner turned 18 yesterday, which means David’s of legal age to marry. So if you’ll excuse us, we need to step out and buy something in a little blue box. But is he the brilliant- or princess-cut type? Oh, who are we kidding — he’s BOTH. [Confessions of an 'Idol' Addict]
They want to marry David? Lol. And if you check here, it’s filed under “consummations”. LMAO.

David’s Favorite Albums & Songs of ’08, Jamaica Observer Review

David Archuleta, John Mayer, Vampire Weekend And More Give Us Their Favorite Albums And Songs Of 2008

By James Montgomery

Last week, when we published a list of artists’ favorite songs and albums of 2008, we expected to get some feedback … but what we couldn’t have predicted is just how much of that feedback would come from other artists.

IPB ImageSeems that everyone wanted to get in on the act, which meant that over the past few days, we’ve been getting even more lists from some of the artists who had huge impacts on 2008 — everyone from “American Idol” contestants and hip-hop headliners to much-buzzed blog bands and returning legends. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that we decided to do a second round of artist’s picks — their favorite songs and albums of the year — which you can read below.

David Archuleta

“One of the biggest songs of the year for me was definitely ‘I’m Yours’ by Jason Mraz … you gotta love that song. I mean, who doesn’t? If you don’t there’s something wrong going on. It’s an awesome song.

“Some of the big albums for me were We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things by Jason Mraz, Where The Light Is, the live album by John Mayer, Pocket Full Of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield — that’s a good one. I really liked Fearless by Taylor Swift, that’s an awesome album. I like, uh, Sara Bareilles‘ one, but I don’t know if that came out this year or last year. I don’t know which ones came out when.”

Archuleta Serves Up Polite Pop on Debut Dics
BY TYRONE S REID Observer staff writer reidt@jamaicaobserver.com

David Archuleta (19 Recordings)
Artiste: David Archuleta
Overall rating: (*** stars) from four

EACH year, American Idol winners and runners-up release debut albums that are either hits or miserable flops.

Smartly following in the footsteps of past contestants Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Clay Aiken, 2008 ‘Idol’ second-place finisher David Archuleta has entered the music landscape with a praiseworthy debut album, laden with polite pop gems and radio-friendly ballads that successfully show off his treble chops. And though he occasionally comes across as a love-sick 17-year-old grovelling at the feet of his love interest, the real allure of this album is all him.

The heartfelt A Little Too Not Over You with its earnest energy, plush musical interludes and heavy synth production comes right out of the John Mayer playbook. On the simple yet beautiful Crush (currently riding the pop charts) he sweetly comes clean to the chick he is digging, while the acoustic guitar adds to the laid-back charm and appeal of You Can. Equally engaging are Touch My Hand which delivers tame verses but a blazing chorus, the urban-influenced Barriers and the groovy My Hands.

Among the album’s other standout cuts is the bass-heavy, mid-tempo track Running, on which the singer’s emotiveness reaches fever pitch. Don’t Let Go flips from one tear-soaked verse to another, while the touching and sweeping album-closer Angels could inspire an entire arena to sing along.

Overall, with this commendable 12-track debut, Archuleta enters the pantheon of new pop artistes of 2008 worth watching, and listening to.

Yes! another review that mentions Running! I love that song, and how it’s been underrated sort of saddened me. Not this time, though!

MTV: Archuleta Shows His Range On Debut Album

MTV Interview and Video

By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello

Remember that episode of “The Brady Bunch” where Peter’s voice changes while the gang is recording a song? David Archuleta wishes that would happen to him.

“Well, I think my voice is getting lower — I’d like to think anyway,” he told MTV News, while promoting his self-titled debut album. “It’s actually a lot lower than it used to be, which is kind of funny, ’cause I don’t exactly have the lowest voice. It’s actually gotten a lot lower.”

While competing on “American Idol” earlier this year, Archuleta became known for his ballads. But the “Idol” runner-up hopes that, on the album, he can show everyone he’s not just some kid that sings sappy songs. “I’m 17; I’m still a teenager. I still really like pop and this is what I do, and I just wanted to show that I still wanted to be relatable to kids my own age,” he said.

This is one of the reasons why he chose “Crush” to be the first single off the album. “I think it was a really important song, ’cause it was the first one to show myself as an artist and to give people an idea of where I was going to go with my music,” he explained. “It surprised a lot of people, because they were expecting this Josh Groban-type song.

“There are actually a couple ballads on the album, and I tried to give as much as a variety as I could, just to show different sides,” he continued. “If I did any more ballads, I didn’t want to fall into that little place where I [was] stuck on the show. I wanted to show that I’m not just Mr. Ballad. I’m 17 and I love music. Maybe in the future the music will mature as I mature.”

The teen also co-wrote two songs on the album, “Don’t Let Go” (which he wrote with JC Chasez) and “A Little Too Not Over You.” He said that recording a song he had a hand in crafting wasn’t any more difficult than singing someone else’s song, but it did allow him to have a better understanding of what he was singing about.

“There was a song called ‘Don’t Let Go,’ and that was a lot of fun to record ’cause I really understood the song,” he explained. ” ‘A Little Too Not Over You’ was a fun collaboration. That one was a little more difficult to record, just because it was a little more rhythm and things going on with the song.”

And unlike some other former “Idol” contestants who had post-show issues with their record labels, Archuleta insists things went quite smoothly for him. “The label was really good to work with, and they had some ideas, and I had some ideas too. We found a compromise, but they were really easygoing, and they were open to our ideas,” he said. “They were really great.”

David on TRL Media: Performance, Backstage, Thud Pics!

Because He Looked Mighty Foiinnnne Tonight!

David was on one of the last shows of TRL today, and he performed Crush. Unlike that of the Jay Leno and the Today Show, he actually sang to a backtrack on TRL. Yes, his hottie cutie band members weren’t there to rockify Crush. But this may be his best live performance of Crush so far! Probably because of the actual interaction between him and the fans! The audience sang with him, and he was literally glowing with delight, you can see how much he feeds off the energy of the crowd! Again, it was an awesome performance! Take a peek below.

Prior to the show, David still took the time to say hi to his fans and hope for everyone’s enjoyment. Seriously? He is the sweetest thing on earth! He could very well be a walking human sugar cube! Amidst all the fan frenzy and flurry of emotions he’s in, he still thought about his fans, about us. David, why do you spoil us so?

and again, here are the thudtastic snaps, because we all know that….

It hurts to put them as thumbnails. It’s like depriving the world of beauty.

and of course, my favorite, which deserves far better than be thumbnailed. haha.
